New advice regarding a 3rd dose of Covid vaccine

New advice regarding COVID vaccines has come out today.

For people with severe immunocompromise it is recommended that you get a 3rd of a covid vaccine as part of your primary course:

This is not a “booster”

People with conditions below should contact their GP clinic/vaccine provider to arrange their 3rd dose:

  • People with active cancers undergoing treatment – with chemotherapy/ radiotherapy/ hormonal therapy

  • People with Blood cancers such as lymphoma and leukaemia

  • Transplant recipients

  • Patients on strong immune suppressing therapies for conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis etc.

  • People with HIV

  • People on dialysis

  • People with specific primary immunodeficiency syndromes – (CVID etc)

Please note the 3rd dose is NOT for other conditions such as diabetes, heart conditions, older age, pregnancy etc.  Nor is it for patients with none of the above conditions.

A Pfizer or Moderna vaccine is preferred for the 3rd dose, and should be given between 2 months and 6 months after the 2nd dose.
